Young Photographer's Alliance Exhibition

Moab is a proud sponsor of the Young Photographer's Alliance (YPA) - an educational foundation dedicated to rallying the resources of the creative community and general public in support of young talent.

On Friday, January 14th the first public exhibition of work by the 38 mentees in the 2010 YPA mentoring program will be on display at the Calumet Gallery in NYC (22 W 22nd Street, 2nd Floor).  The exhibition runs through January 28th.  Entry is free.

Leading photographers shared their creativity and passion for photography with a group of talented college students through a unique mentoring program built around the social theme, "Answering Adversity."

All the images on display were printer on Moab's Lasal Photo Luster 270

New Profiles for an Old Printer

In our never ending desire to have the best profiles on the market, we decided a few weeks ago to go back and begin re-creating profiles for the most popular printers that our customers use. The Epson R2400 was at the top of the list.

We have just completed re-profiling this printer and can say that the new profiles are extraordinarily better than the original profiles we had online. We switched profiling technologies a few years ago, and it is amazing how much better any new profiles are.

Here is a link to the new profiles.  More updates being added weekly.

Capturing the Beauty of Yellowstone

Moab Master, Salvatore Vasapolli, can also be considered the photo master of Wyoming, with numerous books and calendars documenting the gorgeous landscape of this western state.

Salvatore's work in Yellowstone National Park is nothing short of stunning. [We selfishly hope the Entrada Rag paper he uses contributes to the magnificent images]

His recent article in Outdoor Photographer magazine details some of the reasons why Salvatore loves to photograph in Yellowstone, offering some tips as to the best times of the year to visit.

To see more of Salvatore's work check out Outdoor Photographer's Pro Gallery.

Levi's® Photo Workshop comes to a close

After an event-filled 10 week run, this Saturday marks the last day of the Levi's® Photo Workshop in NYC.  Like all the activities at the workshop, the closing night party is expected to be a huge bash.  To be a part of the festivities, please RSVP here.

We were fortunate to be a part of the workshop from the beginning, ensuring that all the images were printed on Moab fine art papers.  The staff at the workshop did a brilliant job of transforming a large open space into a photographer's dream studio, filled with creative energy that translated into some mind-blowing art.

So, we bid farewell to the Levi's® Photo Workshop and eagerly look forward to the next community-based art incarnation.

"The View Project" at the Naples Museum of Art

Joyce Tenneson, famous for her unique style and exquisite portraiture has selected Michael Zide’s black and white landscape photograph Grasses, Vineyard Haven to be part of a travelling exhibit called “The View Project”, which will open December 18th and run through March 13th at the Naples Museum of Art in Naples, Florida.

Michael Culver, the director of the museum, is writing an introduction for the catalog/book.  The exhibition prints will be sponsored by Canon USA, and Tenneson’s  studio will be producing the large prints on Entrada Rag Bright 300.

Entrada spotting at a SoHo gallery

Nothing like a beautiful snowy scene to put us in the holiday mood.  Joseph Holmes' upcoming exhibition, The Urban Wilderness captures the tranquility of Brooklyn's Prospect Park amidst the hectic metropolitan life just outside the park's perimeter.

The Urban Wilderness opens this Saturday at the Jen Bekman Gallery in SoHo.  Holmes plans to hang twelve prints, nine at 17x22 and three at 30x40, matted and framed, all on Moab Entrada Rag Natural 300

In his own words Holmes chose Entrada because he was "impressed by the amount of fine detail that the paper can show."  The opening reception for The Urban Wilderness is on December 10th from 6-8.  The show runs through January 23, 2011.

The Elegant Images of Barbara Bordnick

The online photography site PhotoWorkshop.com recently ran a DoubleExposure cover story on our very own Moab Master, Barbara Bordnick.  Here's an excerpt:

From her fashion photography to portraits of jazz singers and lyrical images of flowers, Barbara Bordnick's elegant work has been published internationally over the past 35 years. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards, and last year, her portrait of lyricist E.Y. Yip Harburg became a commemorative U.S. postage stamp. She has published volume I, II & III of a series of books entitled and states, "I think creative people are always searching."

We're truckin' down I-5 to spend some time with our pals over at Pro Photo Supply in Portland, Oregon this weekend.  Well, actually, we're crashing another party (but don't tell the folks over at Olympus).

This weekend (December 3-4), we're bringing in the guns with our very own Scott Conry and certified Moab print master, Evan Parker.  We invite you to come down with your favorite image on a thumb drive and Evan will print it out for you on one of the Moab fine art papers.

Having trouble finding the perfect gift for the photographer in your life?  Look no further because the folks at Pro Photo Supply are also offering a 15% discount on all Moab papers this weekend.  Can't think of a better way to kick off December!

Your image on Moab: The perfect match

Glazer's Camera in Seattle is holding a Nikon sales event this Friday to Sunday and Moab's gonna crash the party.  Well, not really.  We were kind of invited.

Glazer's and Nikon are encouraging everyone to bring in their finished image file, and we'll print it up for you BIG (13x19) on one of our Moab stocks.

Plus there's more!  All Moab products (except Chinle) will be 10% off this weekend.  So, swing by Glazer's this weekend for some great deals, free prints and nice people.  Can't beat that.

Nash Editions Chooses Colorado Fiber

If you happen to be checking out the current exhibit hanging at the Annenberg Space for Photography, you'll recognize some familiar names such as Michael Nichols, Paul Nicklen, Clyde Butcher and Colorado Fiber.

All the printing for Extreme Exposure was done by Nash Editions using their current favorite, Colorado Fiber Gloss paper.

Extreme Exposure is a group exhibit that celebrates five photographers who thrive in environments that few dare to explore braving dangerous conditions in order to capture rarely seen moments in the life of our planet. Extreme Exposure continues through April 17, 2011.

The venue, an initiative of the Annenberg Foundation and its trustees, is the first solely photographic cultural destination in the Los Angeles area, and it creates a new paradigm in the world of photography.

Printing Portfolios at the Hallmark Institute

Last week we had the pleasure to visit the Hallmark Institute of Photography and present a short seminar about printing and creating portfolios using the Moab Chinle family of albums and papers.

Now, if you've never been up to the school, you're missing out on one of the best photo programs in the country.  Nestled in the beautiful New England countryside of Turners Falls, Mass, Hallmark is renowned for its intensive hands-on curriculum.  We witnessed exactly what this entailed by sitting in on a lighting class.  We were blown away by the facilities, enthusiasm (both students and professors) and the quality of teaching.

The professors are working professionals and are considered masters in their crafts, teaching students on the very best state-of-the-art equipment.  The lab where we presented had 75 printing bays each with its own Epson 2880.  I can't even imagine how much ink they burn through in a given month!

The purpose of our seminar was to demonstrate how easy it is to create your own portfolios.  We walked through the process of downloading and installing the Moab ICC profiles and then went to work importing, sizing and printing images to the Chinle 12x12 square format.  When it comes time for these students to make their own portfolios in the spring, the photo world better be prepared to see some amazing talent.

Learn Color Management

We just found out about a new one-day workshop on color management by photographer and author extraordinaire, Andrew Darlow

You'll walk away with a practical working knowledge of how to make profiles, use the latest color management hardware / software and learn a bunch of technical info on all the printers.

Andrew will load you up with Moab paper samples and a workbook so you'll never forget his tips and tricks.

Where's it at?  Thought you'd never ask.  The workshop takes place this Saturday, November 6th at Calumet's NYC location.

Click here to register and learn more about the event.

On the floor at PhotoPlus 2010

Day two of the PDN PhotoPlus 2010 show came to a close and 400 lucky (and patient) people walked away with signed prints from Michael Zide, Salvatore Vasapolli, Andrew Darlow and Jody Dole. Our buddies at ClearBags supplied archival Crystal Clear Bags to protect all those signed prints.  Thank you all for stopping by our booth and enduring the long lines.

The best part of any trade show is to talk to our fans.  We heard tons of stories about why you love Moab, and listened to your suggestions about what you want from us.  We showcased the Entradalopes and Chinle Ice Nine portfolios, and demonstrated new and fun ways to present your work.

But the real star of the show was Somerset Museum Rag.  Our motto is 'you've got to feel it to believe it,' and sure enough, everyone who touched the new Somerset Museum Rag fell in love with its lush and supple surface and its 4th generation coating that produces deep, rich blacks.

If you were at the show and liked what you saw, then come back for more tomorrow as we round off our Moab Master print signing event with Barbara Bordnick, Jose Gaytan and Ryszard Horowitz.

Tweet-Up with @moabpaper at PhotoPlus

If you plan to attend this year's PhotoPlus Expo in New York City we're participating in their 2nd annual Tweet Up on Thursday, Oct. 28th at 4pm EST.

PDNOnline technology editor @Dan Havlik will be hosting and there will be a ton of prizes being raffled off - including some Chinle Ice Nine portfolio kits.  If that's not incentive enough, this will be a great opportunity to connect with many photogs. See you there!  @moabpaper

Be sure to RSVP here

Meet Andy Biggs at Dury's this weekend

Moab's coming to Nashville and we're hauling along Andy Biggs, photographer extraordinaire and all-around nice guy.  On Friday Andy will show you how he makes his beautiful prints.  Have a technical issue?  This is the man to asnwer it. Then on Saturday, Andy will present his popular program, "Click to Print."

If you are a photographer and want to hear how to become more profitable in your business, Andy will lay it out for you.  As photographers I think we would all agree that one of the missing ingredients in completing our vision for an image is the final output.  Total print control with no excuses.   A “meet and greet” will follow and Moab Paper swatch books will be available for all in attendance.  If you are interested in profitability and control (and who isn't?), make time to be with us.

These events will take place at Dury’s, 701 Ewing Avenue, Nashville, 37203.  No need to register for these classes - just show up to either or both at your convenience!
