Lauren Henkin at Blue Sky Gallery in Portland, OR

Moab Master photographer Lauren Henkin has been invited by Portland's (Oregon) Blue Sky Gallery to discuss her work, and Displaced, her new artist book (printed on Entrada Rag). Displaced is based on her self-imposed Nova Scotian exile.

Stop by on Saturday, December 12th at 3 p.m. Lauren will be showing a copy of the book, signing prints and will talk about the making of the two portfolios that comprise the project.

"...these black-and-white photos stir with a contemplativeness and emotional directness that carry the frisson of discovery. We're witnessing the development -- pun intended -- of a peculiar, worthy talent." - David Row, The Oregonian (Read the full review here.)

Blue Sky is a non-profit space dedicated to educating the public about photography. Their special mission continues to be showing artists that no one has ever heard of, but will. As such, Blue Sky has been credited with having the best record of discovering new photographers of any artists' space in the country.

Hope to see you there.

PDN Virtual Trade Show

Renowned outdoor photographer - and Moab Master - Andy Biggs will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming PDN Virtual Trade Show.

Register for this FREE event and login to watch Andy's presentation "The Perfect Print".

The Perfect Print

While having the ability to print your own photos at home is a tremendous convenience, quality is often elusive. This Webcast will focus exclusively on improving your fine-art digital printing, concentrating specifically on inkjet printmaking. Topics to be covered include old-fashioned testing and how to execute careful color judgments, as well as workflow issues such as color management

Andy's keynote is at 11am EST on December 3rd.

Kyle Krohn Sees Stars

"I chose Colorado Fiber Satine because I wanted a fiber base print instead of RC, for its longevity and its tonal range. With a four hour exposure of the Utah night sky, I wanted all the colors of the stars to come out and play. By day, I'm a photographic equipment/solution sales guy at West Photo in Minneapolis, MN. I have sold gear to families, artists and pros since 1985. My passion is landscapes, wildlife and freelancing as a sports photographer/assistant in the Minneapolis area. I also have started teaching photography classes through Community Education in and around the Twin Cities area. "

Quick Lesson From David Adamson

One of the "godfathers" of digital printing, and longtime Somerset user David Adamson offers an expert diagnosis of some common flaws found in a digital photo.  Check out the article.

David Adamson is a Tamarind certified Master Printer. He started Adamson Editions in 1979 as a lithography studio. In 1993 David bought his first Iris 3047 printer and became one of the first digital ateliers in the country.

Epson 3880 Profiles

We've been getting flooded with requests.  Good news - we should have these available by November 13th the latest, some sooner.  Happy printing!

[update] we have created the profiles, and are currently testing them over the remainder of the weekend. As we approve of the quality of the profiles, we will be posting them to our ICC Downloads area of our web site.

Laying Out Your Images

If you're a portrait or wedding photographer and have ever wondered how people easily layout their images when printing on Moab's two sided papers, including our new 5x7 Entradalope cards, then I have a tip for you.

At the Photo Plus show Jim Graham, a Moab Master, produced a Wedding Album with our new Chinle Ice Nine Portfolio, using a product called Photo Junction.  He spent about 10 minutes introducing me to the product and within that time I felt like I could easily layout a entire wedding album on my own.  The cool thing is the program is free, easy to use and will help you with digital workflow and image layout.
